SYTYCD Season 12, Top 3 Stage Dancers


Jim Nowakowski began dance lessons in his home town of Webster NY, at the age of two and a half. At the age of eleven he began his training at the Timothy M. Draper Center for Dance Education, Rochester, NY. He joined the Rochester City Ballet as a company member in 2002, performing in RCB’s Nutcracker, Cinderella, and Firebird. In 2002 Mr. Nowakowski attended the Youth American Grand Prix where he was presented the Junior Grand Prix Prize. Later in 2004 he took home the Junior Men’s gold and again in 2007 was awarded the Senior Men’s Gold Award.

Mr. Nowakowski was a finalist at the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts young ARTS Week and was presented with the Gold Award in Dance from Mikhail Baryshnikov. He also was a Presidential Scholar of 2007 Nominee, as well as a Carnival Cruise Line youngARTS winner in Dance. Mr. Nowakowski was a former Demi-Soloist with the fourth largest American ballet company, Houston Ballet. His roles at Houston Ballet included many soloist and principal roles in Artistic Director Stanton Welch’s work, Hans van Manen’s Solo; Christopher Wheeldon’s Carousel; Jiri Kilyian’s Soldiers Mass, The Bluebird in Ben Stevenson’s Sleeping Beauty, and Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He was most recently seen on the acclaimed television dance show, ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, and placed top 3 stage dancers, top 6 overall. Mr. Nowakowski was also named one of this years ’25 To Watch’ in January’s issue of Dance Magazine.
